Projects / The Lomandra Project

05.11.2011 to 18.12.2011

I was born in Launceston in 1975 grew up in Gardenvale, Melbourne before relocating to the Northern Territory in 1995 where I become interested in fibre art. For the past four years I have been concentrating on reinvigorating as well as re-inventing traditional weaving skills with Indigenous women based in Arnhem land NT. I have been involved in CCD projects which have used traditional weaving skills as a tool to create capacity within communities. I have come to live back in Victoria with a strong sense of excitement to create a weaving project in the Upper Yarra Region. The Lomandra Project is the umbrella for a movement that will re-invigorate passion and awareness for fibre arts through the application, sharing and experimentation of weaving with local native grasses.
